When Joe’s Sports started the liquidation sale, the company had already been purchased by a liquidation company. They purchased all of the inventory and fixtures at a huge reduction in price. Then they raised some of the prices in the store almost 50 %, so I told you to wait.

They are now getting serious and offering some real values, but you still need to be careful. I almost purchased a broken display product, which had parts missing. All sales will be final, with no returns. All warrantees will be by the manufacture. Few manufactures will cover missing parts on opened items.

But if you know what a product should sell for, you can find some amazing deals. If the boxes are not factory sealed, open then up and inspect the product. If you are not sure it is all there, walk away. That’s better then buying defective merchandise.

So get your credit card out and stimulate the economy.

Portland Business Community is committed to helping local business grow and thrive in these tough economic times. To that end, we are announcing plans to host a FREE training seminar and business networking event.

The training will be a hour and a half long session on how to create effective business blog articles to:

Gain better search engine visibility

More web traffic

Strong ties to your industry

The event will also include time before and after the seminar for face-to-face business networking. No membership fees, no seminar fees; just valuable information you can use to grow your business.

Why are Bear and I doing this?

Because we know the secret to succeeding in business is helping others come together to network and learn. Through stronger bonds with our community everyone in the network will benefit from increased commerce and cooperation.

More information will be forth coming as we secure meeting space and finalize the details.

As our cities grow so does their respective carbon footprint. More people translate into a higher volume of new cars, the need for new buildings, which in turn, increases the need for energy. The picture that is painted here is not very encouraging from an environmental perspective. The good news is that Ecoroofs can absorb a great deal of the pollution created.

The absorption takes place via the plantings on the ecoroof. Plants absorb the pollutants through their leaves and eventually convert pollutants to nutrients. Plants can then reuse the nutrients as food. Both the density of coverage and the types of plants used can vary the amount of pollutant absorption hence the selection of species should be thoughtfully considered in efforts to maximize the absorption rate.

In a publication recently written by Portlands’ Bureau of Environmental Sciences, titled ‘Cost Benefit Evaluation Of Ecoroofs 2008‘, we find that .04 pounds per square foot of carbon particulates are consumed on average by ecoroof plantings. When applying this number to our 7,188 square foot Central City Library Ecoroof in Portland, Oregon, 288 pounds of carbon is consumed annually!

This statistic is certainly encouraging and with persistent promotion of ecoroofs world wide, we can, as a community, create a cleaner environment. The more square feet of ecoroof we create the easier we will all breathe! How much carbon can YOUR roof clean?

It’s time to dust off your fishing gear! The opening of Henry Hagg lake is March 7th. This lake is home to some of the largest Trout in Oregon. It is a common sight to see an 8-15 pound Rainbow Trout being weighed at the Lake Stop Grocery, just down the road from the lake.

Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) is scheduled to stock the lake with 18,000 Trout a week prior to the opening. The lake receives more then 70,000 Trout throughout the year. There are also thousands of fish, which are holdovers from the previous years. These fish have not seen any bait or lures since Thanksgiving last year, so they should be ready to attack your line and give you a good fight.

The lake is also home to State Record Smallmouth Bass. The best time to catch one of these beauties is Mid April to the first week of June while they are in the flats during the spawn.

You can also see Bald Eagles and Osprey feeding on the fish in the lake.

The lake is located in Scroggins Valley, just south of Forest Grove, Oregon and off highway 47.

It is that time of year again to plan on going to the Portland Auto Show. It will run from February 5-8 at the Convention Center in Downtown Portland. There is not a better place to go and see that many cars all in one place. From Acura to Volvo and everything in between. I have been in the auto business for 25 years and I cannot think of another time where the deals were this good. You may not want a car but if you need one then now is the time!

I am excited about having a booth in the Pacific Northwest Sportman’s Show this year. The show runs from February 4-8. In years past, approximately 60,000 people attend this show. I will be located by the TROUT FISHING POND, where kids will actually catch live trout and take them home in a plastic bag. I will also be across from a concessions stand which will slow the traffic. In all I am feeling extremely good about the show.

I have purchased a wonderful trade show display from Ed Bajarana of Zenith Exhibits. Ordered more business cards and info cards for a drawing. I think I have the booth pretty well planned out, thanks to Ed.

I am planning to having a drawing, in which a new ultra light rod and reel will be given away each day. I will also draw for a grand prise of a free guide trip for 4 people ($600 value) at the end of the show. Here are my questions:

Do you think I am giving away too much?

Would you choose a different prise?

As a businessman, what would you want?

I hope to see some of you at the show.
