I was sorry to read the story in the Portland Business Journal that Joe’s Sports will be starting liquidation sales tomorrow Friday April 10th. Formally know as GI Joe’s, the company has been in Oregon since 1952. I am estimating that 600-800 employees will be without jobs soon. I am waiting for company confirmation at the time of this publication.

The unpredictable Salmon fishing season has been a major contributor to the company’s demise. Oregon’s Department of Fish & Wildlife has been slow to determine seasons and closed fishing mid-season because of successful catch rates. It’s unacceptable for our State government to hamper the existence of a vital Oregon industry. Sport fishing brings $730 Million to Oregon Each year.

Joe’s Sports was also a large contributor to local High School sports teams. So we can plan on higher fees required by school Athletic Departments.

So grab your credit cards and head to Joe’s tomorrow while the stock lasts.
